What I say:

On first glance, you’d be forgiven for thinking this LTD LTC EC-256 in Black has the refined look of a professional riff machine indeed!

As this is an Eclipse, we find ourselves in slimmed-down Single Cut land. This model is not only finished in Black, but it also has the binding on both body and the headstock as well as those great ‘Flag’ inlays. Many of the most popular LTD guitars from the last few years have appeared in this guise so there is an instantly agreeable vibe of recognition here. Gold hardware abounds also. It’s a handsome guitar, no matter what price it is.

However, price is one of the main talking points here: this is a very affordable guitar! The body and neck are made from Mahogany, and it features a set neck, a decision that both impresses us and improves the feel of the instrument.

A thin U-shape neck, Extra Jumbo frets and a 12” radius fingerboard mean that this feels very easy on the left hand, and is also very similar to more upmarket LTD models!

The pickups on this EC-256 are stock ESP-designed units and have plenty of chunks and sustain to satisfy the target Hard Rock and Metal audience. At this price, the pickups are more than satisfactory.

Overall, with the LTD EC-256, you can have a mean-looking guitar that sounds good, plays well and has that unmistakable ‘Eclipse’ vibe at a price that cannot be argued with. What more could you ask for?
