Course Duration: 3 Months - 3.5 Months
42 hours (2 classes per week)

Course Outline:

Introduction to Chinese alphabets. Identity. Locations. Figures & amounts. Date and time. Days and months. Shopping and asking for prices. Dining and ordering dishes. Asking for directions and taking transportations. All about school. Living and environment. Weather and climate. Phone, Internet and communication medias. Body and health.

A first two-hour focus on phonics introduce students to this discovery level, allowing them to pronounce Chinese words fast. Student will be able to voice about 70- 90% Chinese words after this first lesson.

• It will built the foundation to learn Chinese.
• It will focus on listening and speaking Chinese and you will also be introduced to Chinese characters. 
• It teaches how to speak and understand over 180 characters and 700 words and phrases, and how to use them correctly in sentences.
• It teaches basic sentence structures and grammar.
• It builds a good Chinese vocabulary list .
• It enables students to converse comfortably in many general topics.

After this level, students are ready for a Chinese Language Proficiency - HSK 1 Test.

At the successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1 obtain a knowledge and understanding of the Romanisation system, characters and basic structure of the Chinese language and of the social, historical and cultural contexts in which the language has been used and is currently used
2 obtain a critical understanding of the linguistic landscape of Chinese speaking countries and regions and ways in which social and cultural specifications are represented through Chinese and Chinese speaking people
3 locate, evaluate and apply characters/words/linking phrases learned to construct simple sentences and texts to express oneself
4 locate, evaluate and apply the linguistic knowledge learned to handle general courtesy in Mandarin, answer predicable questions, introduce oneself and one's familiar environment in Mandarin
5 obtain an understanding of and respect for cultural difference and diversity combined with a knowledge and understanding of the issues involved in intercultural communication
